Buttercream Frosting

1 c. butter, room temp.
 2 lb. powdered sugar (approx 8 c.)
1/2 c milk or cream
½ tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp vanilla

Place butter in a mixer and begin mixing. Add about 1/2 the powdered sugar and mix slowly.  Add the salt, vanilla, and half the liquid.  Mix well.  Add rest of the powdered sugar and mix.  Add what remaining liquid you need to get the consistency you like.  You won't always need it all.

Note*  this recipe make enough for a double layer cake.  Sometime I cut it in half depending what I'm making.  Of course, the kids love putting the left overs on gram crackers.

I believe this is a Wilton recipe, which I got years ago when a took a cake decorating class.  It goes great with many cakes and cookies.
