Saltine Crackers (enough to line a 11"x15" baking sheet)
1 c brown sugar
1 c butter
2 c dark chocolate chips
chopped nuts (optional)
Line the 11X15" baking pan with alumin foil. (Do not skip this step) Next line the pan with crackers, salt side down. Make sure the crackers are butted up against each other.
Preheat oven to 375*
In a sauce pan, on the stove top, combine butter and brown sugar and whisk on medium heat. Once it comes to a boil, continue stirring 4 minutes. Quickly pour over crackers and spread evenly, covering all the crackers. Bake immediately for 5 minutes. Toffee should be bubbly all over.
Take out of oven and distribute chocolate chips evenly over the top. Wait about 5 minutes or until you see that they have all melted and spread with an off set spatula. (At this point you could add the nuts if you like) Let cool on the counter for approx 30 minutes, then put into the freezer at least 2 hours.
Break apart to whatever size pieces you like. This recipe is best stored in the refrigerator or freezer.
****This is an all time family favorite. It is very quick and easy to prepare and awesome to the taste buds. Thank you to a home school friend, Michelle, who first introduced us and shared the recipe.
Options: I've also see this recipe with graham crackers instead of saltines. I first had it with the saltines and don't see a need to try it otherwise.
