Rum Cake

Cake Ingredients:
yellow cake mix (butter)
4 eggs
1/2 c oil
1/2 c rum
1/2 c water

Preheat oven to 350*.  Mix all the above ingredients together in a mixer.  Bake in greased bundt pan for about 1 hour.

Sauce Ingredients:
1/4 c rum
1/4 c water
1/4 pound butter
1 c sugar

Just before the cake is ready to come out of the oven.  Place sauce ingredients in a sauce pan and bring to a boil, stir occasionally for 3-4 minutes.

After the cake comes out of the oven.  Leave in pan and pierce the bottom with a large fork or skewer pick and slowly pour 1/2 the sauce to soak in.  After 1/2 hour or so, turn cake out onto plate and poke more holes on the top of the cake.  Use a brush and brush the remaining sauce on the outside top of the cake.

This cake tastes better on day 2 and 3.  This was a Christmas treat the business manager brought into the quilt shop, Quilting By Halas, where I worked, a long time ago.  All the girls loved this coffee break treat.  One year she made small cakes for each of us to take home.  Thanks JoAnn for sharing your delicious recipe with me.
